TWENTY- SIXTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME (B)

Dear Parishioners,

This coming Friday 5th October we have the CAFOD Family Fast Day. We are asked to fast, pray and give help to people like Longora who lives in a remote village in Uganda. The area is so hot and dry, people used to struggle to get enough clean water to survive. Thanks to the generosity of parishioners in England and Wales, CAFOD has made sure Longora and her neighbours now have a reliable supply of clean and safe water. On Family Fast Day CAFOD invites us to eat simply- perhaps having a bowl of soup instead of a meal- and give the money we save to help people like Longora.

The first Family Fast day was formed in 1960 when a group of women organized the day to support mothers and babies in Dominica who were suffering from malnutrition. They received overwhelming support. From this CAFOD was born.

Elizabeth Orchard, one of CAFOD’s founders, explained: “We weren’t doing anything special, we were just doing what we thought we ought to do, remembering that we are all God’s children.” By eating simply- perhaps having a bowl of soup instead of a meal- and giving the money you save, you are answering God’s call to help our global family. You

are always very generous to this appeal and we do hope you will be so once again. A Lady will be giving a short talk at all the Masses this weekend.
