Dear Parishioners,

We begin the New Liturgical year this week end with the 1st Sunday of Advent. We have the new Mass Books and thank those who placed them in the shelves at the back of the Church and put the others back into the cupboard. Let us try and make this Season of Advent a great preparation for the celebration of the Birth of Our Lord, by trying to come to Mass during the week and receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We will have a special Reconciliation Service on Monday 17th December at 7.00pm in the Church. We will have a number of Priests and hopefully it will be well attended. There are Reconciliation services in the other Parishes of the Deanery and they are as follows: Our Lady of Compassion, Upton Park; & St. Antony Forest Gate on Saturday 15th December at 10.30am. St. Francis, Stratford Monday 17th December at 7.30pm St. Anne’s Custom House on Tuesday 18th December at 7.30pm. St. Margaret’s Canning town on Wednesday 19th December 7.30pm.

CONFIRMATION: I have received a number of application letters for the Sacrament of Confirmation, I am sure there should be a lot more and ask the young people to let me have their letters before Thursday 6th December when we will be having a meeting with the young people and their Parents in the Church at 7.00pm The young people must apply themselves and if they were Baptised in other Catholic Churches they will need to bring a copy of their Baptismal Certificate with them when they come to the Church on Thursday. If you were Baptised here in St. Michael’s you do not need to bring a copy of your Baptism Certificate as we will have your name in the Baptismal Register. The young person must reach the age of 14years by the 31st August 2019 to be accepted for the Course. This is an important time for our young people, for they are applying to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, telling Jesus that they want to be full members of the Church and proclaim their Faith. We do expect you all to attend the first meeting this Thursday and you will be given the time table of the course, which will begin after Christmas. I wish to thank the Catechists who will be leading the course, they have already had meetings and I do hope the young people will give them all the support and to thank Catechists for preparing them for the Sacrament.

SERVICE OF LIGHT: INAUGURATION OF ADVENT in Brentwood Cathedral at 4.00 pm on Sunday 2 December. This beautiful service includes the solemn lighting of the Advent wreath, profound readings and music led by the Cathedral choir. It is a special way to prepare for the real meaning of Christmas and all are welcome. Main celebrant: Bishop Alan Williams sm.

NINE LESSONS AND CAROLS SERVICE on Sunday 23rd December at 4.00 p.m. in the Cathedral.  Main celebrant, Bishop Alan Williams. A service of readings, carols and beautiful choral music from the Cathedral choir. The perfect way to reflect on the radiant meaning of Christmas.  All welcome.

A.P.F RED BOXES: If you have a Red box please, bring it in, in the next week or so that we send the money. There are spare Red boxes at the Back of the Church. Please do take one for your home and put the odd change you may have each week in order to support the Missionary Church throughout the world.

READERS FOR MASS: We are looking for more Readers for our Masses, especially the 8.00am Mass. Please contact one of the Priests or the Secretary and let us know if you wish to Read. The 8am Mass has a lot of people attending and we seem to have only two readers and they are also Special Ministers of the Eucharist, it would be good if people would come forward to do the Readings.

ALTAR SERVERS: There are a number of you receiving Medals and Certificates on Wednesday 26th December at the Special Mass which will be at 10.00am for St. Stephen’s day. You must attend the meeting this coming Tuesday for a practice at 6.30pm in the Church. We thank all our Altar Servers especially those who attend the masses during the week. Sadly, we seem to have lost a number of you, hopefully you will come back for it is an honour to serve the Lord in this very special way.
