SIXTEENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME (B)

Dear Parishioners,

On Wednesday we said goodbye to Damien Wade as he prepares himself to join the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes to work with one of the many Youth Groups. I was sorry to see him go as he was a tremendous companion over the past month. We ask your prayers for his continued journey towards the priesthood and wish him every success. The Diocesan Vocations Director came to see how he was doing in the parish and was very impressed with all Damien got involved with. He has a number of Students doing similar activities around the Diocese and tells me he is very happy with the quality of Students the Brentwood Diocese has. We do ask your prayers for all our Students and pray that more will come forward and offer their services to Almighty God as Priests. GOD BLESS, Bob Below is a few words from Damien himslef.

Dear friends,

A wise person once said made the statement ‘time flies when you are having fun’, my time with you in East Ham has drawn to a close. Today I begin a Pilgrimage to Lourdes with the youth of our diocese. I am really grateful to all of you for the great welcome that I have received over the last month. Over the month, I have had the chance to experience amazing things. As you know, my background is in Education, so the time I spent in your primary school, St Michaels I have really enjoyed. I travelled with them to a year 6 Bosco Camp day, even though we spent hours on a hot coach in a traffic jam, the company was superb. I spent time with most year groups where they grilled me on my life and topics of the day. I was so impressed with the talent in this school, I had the chance to watch their end of year performances as a whole school and also the year 6 leavers performance. The students at this school are a credit to both their parents/guardians and the school community itself. I also spent some time at St Bonaventure’s school including taking part in a question and answer session with Yr 10s as part of a school mission day. Another part of my time here that I really enjoyed was my time with St John’s school and the Friday night CF discos. I had the chance to spend time at Newham Hospital which allowed me to experience another part of ministry. I leave today but I bring a part of this parish with me into (God willing) my future ministry. I will miss the spiritual exercises. Look after your amazing parish priest: Fr Bob. Be assured of my prayers for all of you as I continue my journey towards priesthood. If ever you have some free time before God, there is always a seminarian that is in great need of your prayers.

God Bless each of you and thanks once again. Damien
