Dear Parishioners,

This coming Friday 23rd February is Family Fast Day. Envelopes will be given out at all Masses this week end. The money you save from fasting from a main meal on Friday should be placed in the envelope and given to the Church after all Masses next Sunday. You can of course just put the money in the collection buckets. This money is then sent to CAFOD to help the poor children in so many parts of the world where there is hunger and strife. Every £1.00 you give the Government will also give a £1.00, so let us be as generous as we usually are to this Charity.

LENT: started with wonderful numbers of people attending the Masses on Ash Wednesday. The Church was really packed with people in the morning and the evening. I was really excited at the numbers and can only hope that people will try to come to a Mass during the week especially on Fridays when we have Stations of the Cross followed by Holy Mass.

BISHOP ALAN: will be coming to the Parish next Sunday on Visitation and Confirmation. About every three years the Bishop visits each Parish and it is three years since he was last here. You will remember that he came while we were having the Church repaired after the Fire and we had to use Our Lady of Compassion for the Sacrament of Confirmation. So this will be his first time to give the Sacrament of Confirmation to members of the Parish in St. Michael’s. The Sacrament will be given during the 11.00am Mass next Sunday 25th February. After the Mass there will be light refreshments in St. Michael’s School Hall and people will have the opportunity of meeting and chatting to Bishop Alan. We are suggesting that those who usually attend the 11.00am Mass and do not have any family receiving the Sacrament might change to one of the other Masses as we expect lots of extra people who would be family members of the Students receiving the Sacrament. You would still be invited to come along to the School Hall after the Mass to meet Bishop Alan and share in the refreshments. We do hope that everyone will welcome our Bishop and enjoy this very special day for the whole of the Parish. I take this opportunity of thanking the young people for their attendance at the Course and a huge thank you to the Catechists who have done a tremendous job in the preparation of the young people.
