THE SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (B)

Dear Parishioners,

This coming Wednesday 14th February is Ash Wednesday a day of Fasting and Abstinence. We are all expected to fast from a meal and to eat no meat on that day. We should also attend Holy Mas and receive the Ashes. The Masses on Wednesday are at 9.30am and 7.00pm. Hopefully the Children will remember to come to Mass as they will be on half term holiday. So we do ask the parents to bring their children to the Church on this very special day. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the Lenten Season and it is a time when we try to give extra preparation to our Spiritual Life in preparation for the great feast of The Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We do this by maybe coming to Mass during the week. We have an extra Mass of Friday evenings at 7.00pm. We also have Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent at 6.30pm. We should also give time to reading the Scriptures, like the Sunday Mass readings in preparation for the celebration of Holy Mass each week. Praying the Rosary each day and popping into the Church during the day. Children should also think of what they could do during the Season of Lent and make it a very special time. Maybe try to help a little more in the house, being kind to each other, saving some money by cutting down on sweets and saving the money not spent to give to a Children’s society to help feed the starving children all over the world. There are lots of activities we can all do in Lent to make it very special time, hopefully we will begin by attending Mass on Ash Wednesday.

LOURDES: I am hoping to take a group to Lourdes on Monday 9th April to Friday 13th April. It will be four nights with full board. I am not sure yet of the cost but will have it by next week. If you are interested please give me your name and address and telephone number and I will get the relevant form for you to fill in.

FR. FRANCIS: has sent a message thanking every one for their prayers and kind thoughts. He has said that everything went very well and has been spending time with his family and with Fr. Samuel and visiting many of his priest’s friends. He hopes to return to England on Monday. Please keep him in your prayers and we look forward to his return.

GOD BLESS
