Dear Parishioners,

Next Sunday 17th February is Racial Justice Sunday, which focuses on the experience of ethnic communities in England and Wales. It is a day on which we are called to earnestly pray for an end to racism and racial inequality in our country. The theme this year is Dignity of Work, looking at how all people must not be exploitesd or face discrimination and hatred in their work. In Octogesima Adveniens and Guadium et Spes, St. Paul VI teaches that “ all people have a right to work…to lead a worthy life on the material, socoal, cultural and spiritual level”. We are therefore called to ensure people are not exploited while they work, and to open our hearts to those who face this hatred. “As you did this for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you didit to me…”

In our task as disciples of Christ, our resposibility is to make sure people are treated with dignity at work and are not exploited. Migrant communities and those suffering from racial abuse are particularly vulnerable to being drawn into unjust working conditions and labour exploitation. News and information regarding Racial Justice Sunday is available on the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of England and Wales website: www.catholicnews.org.uk/racial-justice-sunday-2019 There will be a retiring collection at all Masses this weekend and the money raised will be used for promoting racial justice in England and Wales. So we ask you to be as generous as you can for this well worth while cause.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY: We have received a letter of thanks from Fr. Tony Chantry for the gift we sent of £602.85 to help build a future filled with hope in Ethiopia and other communities in need of experiencing God’s love.Fr. Tony wirtes that he is so grateful for your generosity and tells us that Sr. Karlo and her fellow Little Sisters of Jesus are very touched to know that we are praying for them and supporting their ministry. The Sisters have made it their mission to overcome the exclusion of the Menja people. They help Menja families grow and sell coffee for food, they help pregnant women deliver their children safely and the educate the youth.

Please continue supporting them with the Red Boxes. We do have some spare one if any person wishes to have one in their homes.

God Bless, Bob
